eSIM – Usage, setup and instructions

Compact instructions for iOS & Android. Please check compatibility and device lock (SIM lock) beforehand.

How can I use the eSIM service?

  • iOS: iPhone XR/XS or newer with iOS 12.1+ and unlocked (no SIM lock). Contract devices are often SIM locked – please have your mobile provider unlock it if necessary.
  • Android: Many current Samsung Galaxy , Google Pixel and other Android models support eSIM. Features vary depending on the manufacturer/model.

Note: External eSIM profiles cannot be used on locked devices.

In which situations is eSIM useful?

  • Add a local data plan when traveling (e.g., outside your home country).
  • Use data via eSIM and keep the voice/SMS line on the physical SIM (Dual-SIM).

Setting up eSIM on iOS

  1. Purchase an eSIM data plan on our website.
  2. Receive a QR code via email.
  3. Add profile:
    • Settings → Mobile network (or Mobile data ) → Add mobile plan .
    • Scan QR code → Confirm adding mobile plan .
    • A secondary label is assigned, e.g., "eSIM".
    • Select "Use mobile data only via eSIM" and continue.
    • Maintain as the primary line for calls/texts.
    • Check APN: eSIM → Mobile data networkAPN .

Setting up eSIM on Android

  1. Purchase an eSIM data plan on our website.
  2. Receive a QR code via email.
  3. Add profile:
    • Settings → Network & InternetMobile network .
    • Download an eSIM instead?Download SIMContinue .
    • Scan QR code → DownloadDone .
    • Check APN: eSIM → AdvancedAccess Point Names (APNs) .

Network speed

  • 4G/LTE is available in most countries; coverage is continuously being expanded.

Are phone calls and text messages included?

  • No. These are data services . Please make calls via VoIP apps (e.g., WhatsApp).

Using Dual SIM on the iPhone

  • Allows separate tariffs for data (eSIM) and voice/SMS (physical SIM).
  • After scanning the eSIM, label it as secondary and select mobile data only via eSIM. Confirm any messages such as "Unverified mobile plan" with OK .

Does data roaming need to be enabled?

  • Yes. Please activate data roaming for the eSIM (e.g., iOS: Settings → Cellular → Data Roaming). Deactivate it again after your trip.

Remove eSIM after use

  • The eSIM profile can be deleted at any time via the device settings.

Delivery after purchase

  • Email with QR code. Please check your spam folder if you don't receive it.

How is the validity period calculated?

  • For some plans, the contract period starts with the first network connection of the eSIM. Details can be found in the respective package description.

Check data usage / remaining data allowance

  • For some packages, the data usage is visible on the order, for others it is not. Alternatively, check on your device (e.g., iOS: Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data Usage ).

Can multiple phones scan the same QR code?

  • No, the QR code is device-specific . The same type of device can scan the code again, but multiple devices cannot.

Will my physical SIM card still work?

  • Yes. We recommend disabling data roaming on the physical SIM and enabling Wi-Fi calling (if supported).
